Navigating the complexities of brownfield projects: A case study in Queensland

Delivering complex projects in live food processing environments takes experience, careful planning and precise execution. Wiley recently completed a critical asbestos roof replacement at a meat processing plant in Queensland.

Being an older facility, one of the primary risks was the safe management of asbestos. An asbestos roof presents a huge risk to a food processing site. If the roof was damaged in a storm and asbestos was scattered across the site, the production operations would be forced to close until the site was remediated.

This project highlights the challenges of brownfield delivery, where existing operations add complexity. To ensure safety for people, complex processing operations and products, the project was delivered in two stages.  To mitigate risks, the roof was removed during a scheduled shutdown, air quality was monitored by a hygienist, and isolation zones were cleaned daily.

Our skilled team worked safely at heights and around challenging conditions to complete the job without disruptions to the plant operations, drawing on their extensive brownfield expertise to manage risks and deliver the project safely and efficiently.

Projects like these are at the core of our expertise. We thrive in managing the complexities of brownfield developments, ensuring minimal disruption to operations, while prioritising safety and quality.  If you are thinking of upgrading the building fabric of your site, contact Wiley to explore how we can help.
