Each day, a van leaves Coffee Brigade’s headquarters and drives around Brisbane, supplying fresh coffee and nutritious sandwiches to those experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness.
It’s an important job, and in early February, Wiley were proud to attend the official opening of Coffee Brigade’s new premises in Windsor. Wiley had assisted Coffee Brigade in the completion of this project by coordinating the fit-out, donating a financial component to cover costs and providing in-kind support.
The modern facility, which is significantly larger than their previous premises at Spring Hill, allows Coffee Brigade to provide an increased level of support to those in need.
The new kitchen will provide the organisation’s 150+ volunteers space to prepare more meals in a wider variety of styles, while the new dining area will provide space for people to enjoy a meal and connect with others.
Since its founding 50 years ago, Coffee Brigade’s mission was to deliver more than just food. It was about providing a human connection, which is why the new facility’s seating area is such a vital part of their service.
“It’s more than a cup of coffee and a sandwich,” announced Lady Mayoress and Chair of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust Nina Schrinner at the facility’s opening. “It’s compassion and a kind ear during an incredibly difficult time. This new facility will allow them to expand their offerings and help even more people in need.”
The new premises was officially opened by Lady Schrinner, along with Enoggera Ward Councillor Andrew Wines. Wiley were also very proud to partner on the delivery of this project with The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust, Space Property, Accelerate Property, Engage Group, Sisters of Charity, Tim Nicholls, and the Gambling Community Fund.
Coffee Brigade President, Melinda Clifton thanked everyone at the weekend ceremony. “We are delighted to be in a new facility so that we can continue to reach more of Brisbane’s vulnerable. It wouldn’t have been possible without the incredibly generous donations and in-kind support we received.”
Overall, the new purpose-built facility is a significant milestone for Coffee Brigade and a testament to the generosity and compassion of the Brisbane community.
