Wiley were honoured to attend the official opening and dedication of the Wilsonton State High School multi-purpose hall last week, which was delivered by Wiley earlier this year.
The dedication was led by Hon Grace Grace MP, Minister for Education and Minister for Industrial relations, with many honourable guests in attendance including local leaders and indigenous elders.
Guests, staff and students spoke emotionally about the effect the new hall has had on the experience of the students and the deep cultural transformation it has created within the school. The proceedings featured performances by the school band and interpretive dance group who use this hi-tech new space to develop their passions.
Wiley’s Business Operations Manager, Simon Spittle said, “The opening and dedication ceremony was a proud moment for all, and for Wiley a great alignment with our values of Future, Community and Empowerment. This hall will further enhance the opportunities that Wilsonton State High School offers its students and is a great investment in the community. We thank the local suppliers and sub-contractors who also helped us to deliver this fantastic project to the school.”
Ms Grace said the opening of the hall, handed over to the school by Wiley in February this year, was already being credited with transforming the school culture.
“Wilsonton State High School has never had a hall before, and assemblies and other events have been held in an undercover area,” Ms Grace said.
“It’s already been utilised by the school community, with Wilsonton’s first ever school musical held at the hall in May.
Ms Grace said the $6.3 million hall incorporated a multi-purpose sports court, a stage area which can be closed off for use while the court is in action, storage rooms, amenities and change rooms, kitchen facilities, a kinesiology room and staff room.
Wilsonton State High School Principal Marcus Jones said the hall was proving a huge asset to the school.
“The difference this has made to the whole culture of the school just can’t be overstated,” Mr Jones said.
“Already this auditorium has increased the opportunities on offer for students.
“Wilsonton State High School now has the facilities to complement the great teaching and learning that occurs here each and every day.”
