Project Description

Wiley were engaged to deliver a world first Beef Carcase Automated Marshalling Conveyor System and Boning Room Trim Management System, including:

  • Detailed design and construction
  • Manufacture, installation and commissioning of complex mechanical equipment
  • Development of computer program logic to control the operational system for the marshalling chiller

Through innovative approaches in design, engineering, materials and processes in the development of the system, the project was completed successfully on time and within budget. The $77M project was delivered over a 23-month period, coinciding with the COVID pandemic, labour and material shortages, supplier volatility and the 2022 Brisbane floods.

BUSINESS VALUE TO THE CLIENT

Wiley successfully delivered a system that provides significantly increased efficiencies within JBS operations:

  • A fully automated marshalling system which conveys, sorts and stacks beef sides into meat grades for processing, improving safety and productivity (allowing JBS to process and chill 3,400 cattle per day)
  • Expanded plant chiller capacity and improved configuration to handle higher processing volumes
  • A state of the art meat trim management system, enabling JBS to deliver premium products with increased value, greater consistency, reliability and food safety
  • JBS were able to implement a ‘second shift’ in the first half of 2024 and employ an additional 500 people.
