Australia’s oldest single-family owned meat processor, John Dee, engaged Wiley to design-build a regional cold store and state-of-the-art Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) at their Warwick processing facility. The upgrade is designed to reduce operational costs, expand storage capacity, increase product sorting capabilities and secure the future of the local, family-owned business.
The ASRS solution is purpose-designed to enable John Dee to scale up and increase its premium beef export market share. The four-aisle, 30-level Dematic Multishuttle solution automatically stores product cartons coming out of production and builds and sequences the cartons for manual and automated palletisation and direct container loading. It has a range of benefits, including the flexibility to cater for temperature changes required for increasingly mature export markets.
The regional cold store and ASRS solutions were delivered with minimal impact to production in an operating plant, something Wiley has extensive experience in.
The expansion was made possible via from the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund and the Queensland Government’s Jobs and Regional Growth Fund. Wiley assisted John Dee in the successful award of these grant funds.
